Dark Series : First of all I wanted to try to do this series because I have never tried to link images together before in a very meaningful way. The story behind this is about a person's life. At the beginning of the series I conveyed a feeling of both being lost and running away from things. I think that at a point in many people's lives there is a lot of pressure on them to choose a career and figure out what they want to do in their lives. I certainly know I have felt a lot of pressure, I keep wondering if I should get a graduate's degree or if I can make enough money through photography. I soon fall through the secret passageway and find myself awakening with light behind me. This is supposed to be an epiphany where I finally realize what I want to do. When falling through the secret passageway I have money in the series for the first time, this is because in life money is such a major element in our lives. The briefcase that I wake up beside is supposed to represent getting a job and increasing what money I have. You will notice that in every image I'm in in this series I'm wearing a dress shirt to represent to corporate world. So now that I have figured out how to make money I ascended the spiral staircase which is supposed to represent the corporate world trying to make more money and I wanted to emphasize an obsession with it to the point I made the following image of me sitting on a throne. I tried to tie in Occupy Wall Street with this series in a sense and this shows the greed that can be built up in a person. The image after that represented basically a psychopath who no longer cared about anyone and would do anything they wanted to get what they want and that's why I entitled it "Mine it Will Be!" In the final image is the fall of this psychopath who no longer cared about anything but money, that's why I entitled it "There's Nowhere To Go" and put the description "You cannot escape the light". Pretty well I wanted to make the point that the world doesn't tolerate such greed without caring for other humans and that these people will be done away with.

Run Series : The basic meaning I believe was quite simple, running through life without even thinking why? A tempo set from the very first image that has the setting of a spring morning representing the early times in life all the way to the final image that has the setting of a winter night symbolizing death. In between we go towards summer and the middle of the day where the character starts holding a paper representing schooling, and during the summer and towards the fall the character holds a briefcase symbolizing the working world. During the later fall months as we get later in the day the character starts holding a cane symbolizing old age. In the second last image the character collapses, this symbolizes the only point in the character's life where they couldn't run only because they didn't have the ability. The character then dies in the next image. Why do we run through life? There's so much in life of trying to catch up, trying to become this, trying to fit in, worrying about all kinds of things, which to an extent is natural, but I'm worried that some people have nearly become machines in society where they don't think as much, they don't question enough why they are doing what they are doing and find what it is that will make them both happy and productive in life. It's like many people are wound up at birth and spin like a top until they collapse and die. So the main message from this series is to step back for a moment and think about your life and try to appreciate it.

Christmas Series : This time of year around Christmas can be depressing for many people, daylight is shorter for many of us and many people get together to celebrate. There are some people who don't have friends or family to celebrate with and can feel quite lonely at this time of the year. The aim of this series was to create something that felt Christmas-like but had a very lonely and depressing mood to it. In each image I am alone. Nearly all of the images have warm fuzzy colours that are kind of associated with this time of year. Most of my images have alcohol included in them since that is something people drink when they are partying but also when they are very depressed. The element of alcohol becomes more prominent throughout the series. The first image in the series had to do with a lonely and insecure feeling that people may have at this time of year. I'm holding a cat in a housecoat for comfort with a dreamy soft style of processing. The second image is supposed to feel almost like I'm at a party, but I'm the only one there, I'm trying to enjoy myself and there's a hopeful look in my eyes. The third and fourth images I appear to be following through with more Christmas-like activities like eating and drinking, but in both images I look more and more depressed. In these two images I have the warmest and happiest colours of the series since they reflect more general Christmas activities. In the fifth image I'm extremely dressed and lonely in front of a window but just looking down at the ground. I have given up, you can clearly see a bottle of wine in my hand. The colours in this image not nearly as warm as in the previous two. In the final image I hang myself, the loneliness and depression have become too much and I use something very representative of Christmas itself to hang myself with and those are Christmas lights. The colours in this image are much more cool in temperature and this is the darkest image overall in the entire series. It's ironic that such a colourful and glowing decoration is what I'm using to kill myself with and this relates to how joyful this time of year is supposed to be yet many people tend to be the most lonely at this time of year.

Difficult Series : The idea behind this series was to illustrate how life is hard on many people. I start out the series with an image titled "The Struggle!" and every third image in the series has a similar title, the fourth image is titled "Struggle" and the seventh image is titled "Struggle! Struggle! Struggle!". The first and second struggle images depict the character in a situation where there is a lot of pain and trauma, the first one he's being kicked and in the second one he's being hit by a car. In the last struggle image the character is depressed and thinking, he has have given up hope and the subsequent image depicts the character committing suicide at a subway station. The plot of the series between these struggle images is following along Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The second image in the series depicts the basic need for food where the character looks like he's eating something quite basic outside. It's titled "I'm Just a Poor Boy", which is inspired by the Queen song. The third image in the series is titled "The Backstreets" which was inspired by the Bruce Springsteen song. It deals with safety needs, in particular shelter and the character is sitting alone in an alley as it's snowing. The fifth image depicts the character looking at a picture which is based on the need of love and belonging and is titled "No One's Around After New Year's Day". The sixth image is titled "Why Do I Bother?" and it depicts the character holding a camera and looking frustrated. Here I was illustrating the need for esteem. In the eighth image the character is committing suicide by jumping in front of a subway train and I titled it "Why Must Everyone Die?" This image deals with self actualization and in this story the character does not obtain this. Throughout the whole story the character fails to meet any need and the viewer is constantly confronted with images of pain and struggle. The point of the story was to give a sense of awareness to the audience of the struggles that people can face in their lives.

Scientist Series : Coming from a science background in chemistry and biology I find that there are a lot of stereotypes and ways the public seem to frame people related to this area. So I decided to make a series of satirical images depicting some of the ways the public views scientists. The first image called "Living is Fatal, You Are Going to Die" was a play on how much in the media you hear about ways to increase your life expectancy and avoid health problems. The truth is, no matter what you do you are going to die anyway, although it is a good idea to live a healthy life. The second image titled "Smoking is Healthy and Will Increase Life Expectancy" was a play on how trusted people in the science world are. We are taken as absolute. Of course science tries to be absolute, but just because you are dealing with someone with years of education, training, and experience, doesn't mean they can make a mistake. It doesn't mean that they can magically make the world become concrete. The third image image in the series titled "What is the Most Important Thing to Learn in Chemistry? Never Lick the Spoon." was a play on how scientists are taken as always being completely serious, they tell jokes too, they are human just like you. The fourth image which took me a while to produce because I got into working on a different series was titled "It's Party Time!" This one deals with scientists not knowing how to be fun or goofy. The last image in the series was titled "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - Albert Einstein" and dealt with how so many random quotes these days are attributed to Albert Einstein. It's like if you can attribute it to a famous scientist, people will respect it more and take something more seriously.
